Curriculum

Autumn 1

This term our topic is ‘Marvellous Me’. We will be focusing on starting school and our new class. Relationships with our friends and also learning all about my family and me. We will be exploring the season autumn and all the exciting colours, smells, tastes and sounds that we can find.

In our reading, we will enjoy two books by Nick Sharratt, There's a Shark in the Park on a Windy Day and You Choose! We will also become adventurers reading We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen and We're Going on a Leaf Hunt by Steve Metzger alongside a range of non-fiction texts that explore the season of autumn. We will also bring our learning to life through hands-on investigations at our school pond, where we will observe changes in the season of autumn, going on real-life hunts for autumn treasures to create our own artwork.

In Understanding the World, we will be exploring how we have changed from a baby, talking about ourselves, our homes and our family members and learning about different kinds of families and the jobs people do in our community. In RE we will be learning about ‘Harvest’. In writing, we are beginning to learn how to form our letters correctly using the Red Rose Letters and Sounds rhymes to help us. We will be starting to write our names correctly too. We will be beginning Phase 2 phonics learning our letters and sounds.  The children really benefit from lots of encouragement both at school and at home to help build their confidence in this important area.
