WEEK 24 - 13.07.20

MONDAY 

This weekʼs teaching focuses on Part 2 of ʻThe Secret of Mulanʼ in Tales of Hidden Heroes.

Text Outline: Mulan reaches the Red Mountains and discovers the bandit army guarding the pass through the mountains. The cavalry is driven back by Flying Swallow, the bandit leader, and is defeated. Mulan sneaks into the bandit camp and poisons their food. In front of the emperor, Mulan reveals her true self and is praised for her bravery. Reflect on Mulanʼs personality and the importance of the Mulan story.

Complete the activities on pages 17–18 of the workbook. These activities focus on words from the text and are designed to build vocabulary.

The focus words for these activities are: colossal, plummet, skittered, alighted, endure

TUESDAY

Look at Part 2 of ʻThe Secret of Mulanʼ in Tales of Hidden Heroes and record their thoughts about the looking, clue and thinking questions on page 19 of the workbook. The three questions are:

  • Looking: How did Mulan defeat the army?
  • Clue: Why didnʼt Mulan give up?
  • Thinking: Why is the story of Mulan retold so many times?

WEDNESDAY

Talk about the three questions that you have made notes on. Refer to your workbook notes you have made and a copy of the text.

THURSDAY

Complete the activity on page 20 the workbook. Working with a partner, talk about how the conversation on Day 3 has informed your understanding of the text, making notes in the spaces provided.

FRIDAY

Complete the follow-up writing activity on page 21 of the workbook.
