We were delighted to welcome local Rotarians, Mary and Marie, into our Monday morning assembly this week.
Five children in Barrow were presented with a certificate of achievement and cards from Clitheroe Rotary Club thanking them for their efforts in the Rotary Young Artist Competition.
We also had two winners! Emmie A (Year 5) and Oliver Ho (Year 3) were given gift vouchers for their entries!
A super, creative well done to all!
WOW! What a lot of fun has been had in our KS1 Yoga and Mindfulness club over the last couple of weeks. We have been practicing different mindful breathing techniques, yoga sequences, enjoying mindful colouring together and we even mindfully enjoyed a delicious hot chocolate with marshmallows, thinking about how it looked, smelt, felt and tasted - yum!
Thank you to all our families for the donations of Easter eggs & bags for life that we have given to Ribble Valley Foodbank today. 59 Easter Eggs & 44 bags for life. A massive thank you to Lola for helping me count the donations.
A big thank you to the Faith Explorers for crafting and distributing Lent bracelet kits! Your thoughtful initiative of symbolising acts of kindness with beads is truly inspiring. As each bead represents a gesture of love, we're reminded of the profound impact of small acts. Come Easter, our bracelets will shine with a beautiful mosaic of compassion and generosity. Gratitude for fostering a culture of kindness!
A heartfelt thank you to Sycamore Class for leading us in a beautiful family worship on Lent. Your rendition of the song at the end was truly moving and served as a poignant reminder of the significance of this season for Christians. As one parent aptly noted on the evaluation sheet, 'I loved the warmth and energy in the room, which is a great reflection of the philosophy of the school'
Year 6 had an amazing morning with Johnson Matthey who came into school to complete a STEM challenge with the children. In teams, the children had to build the tallest tower using dowel and elastic bands. They also had to budget for their materials, design a marketing campaign and think about how sturdy their design would be. They gained 10 points for every cm their antenna was above the ground. Several groups created a tower well above 3m tall!
We had a visit from a monk to complete our Buddhism topic. He told us how Buddhists prayed and we even practiced meditating!
Year 6 had an amazing day in London. They went to The Houses of Parliament, visited the King’s robing room, toured the House of Lords, met our local MP, Nigel Evans, took part in a law and debating workshop, feasted on burgers, travelled on the underground and lots more. It was a fantastic opportunity for our children to learn about democracy and rules of law.
We're thrilled to announce that our school has been awarded the GOLD level for the Behaviour Quality Mark Award!
A massive congratulations to everyone in the Barrow family! It's been heartwarming to see our school shine and showcase the incredible staff and children who embody 'The Barrow Way'. Let's continue to celebrate our success together!
The Quality Mark and moderation day focused on 8 key areas;
School Culture, Policy, Relationships, Curriculum and Learning, Conduct (around school), Safety, Inclusion, Pupil Support and Intervention, Staff Support and Development.
On Monday, we started off our week with some mindful breathing in assembly and 'Mountain Pose' yoga in the hall. We introduced our 'Thank Tank' which encourages children to express what they are grateful for. On Wednesday morning we had a selection of wellbeing stations (yoga, playdough, chatterboxes, fitness, colouring) for the children to choose from and the whole school enjoyed taking part in the various activities. It was lovely to see the different year groups spending time together, and the older children looking after the little ones! Well done Barrow!
Today, Elm have visited Clitheroe Mosque. We met Imam Ubai and Uncle Farooq who showed us how people prayer and how people prepare for prayer through washing. It was really great to see what we have learnt first hand
