Curriculum
Summer 2
Welcome to our exciting new Summer 2 topic – Outdoor Adventurers! This half term, our Reception children will be stepping into the wonderful world of nature and adventure, using their imaginations and curiosity to explore the great outdoors. Through stories, sensory play, and outdoor learning, the children will discover how to care for our planet, learn about the changing seasons, and dive into the magic of the natural world around them.
We'll be enjoying a range of fantastic books including Tiddler and Superworm by Julia Donaldson, Billy’s Bucket by Nick Sharratt, and Farmyard Hulabaloo by Giles Andreae. These engaging stories will spark our imaginations as we explore themes such as ocean life, sustainability, and the wonders of summer.
We are especially excited for our trip to Mrs Dowson’s farm in June!
🌟 Getting Ready for Year 1! 🌟
Simple ways to support your child at home
🧦 Encourage Independence
Let your child practise dressing themselves, putting on shoes, and tidying up. These everyday skills build confidence and responsibility.
📚 Keep Reading Together
Read every day – it helps build language and imagination! Ask questions, spot tricky words, and enjoy stories together.
✏️ Make Writing Fun
Encourage your child to write shopping lists, cards, or draw pictures with labels. Every little bit helps build their confidence.
🔢 Everyday Maths
Count steps, look for numbers on signs, and talk about more/less during play or mealtimes. Maths is everywhere!
💬 Talk About What’s Coming
Chat positively about Year 1 – their new classroom, fun learning, and lovely teachers. Help your child feel excited (and reassured!).
