Oak - Reception

Welcome to Oak Class!

We are ready to kickstart our Summer term with lots of fun after very busy Autumn and Spring terms in Reception. We will be focusing on new life, discussing the life cycles of tadpoles and chicks and growing our own plants in class too. We are so lucky to have been donated some tadpoles from a Barrow family's pond, and we will also be caring for some eggs which will (hopefully!) hatch into chicks in Oak class too - lots of exciting things to explore and learn together.

This term's topic is called 'Down on the farm'

We will be reading lots of books together, starting off with:

'What the ladybird heard', 'Farmyard Hullabaloo' and 'The great goat chase'.

We are really looking forward to our class trip to Mrs Dowson's Farm on Thursday 6th June.

Key Information for Parents

To keep up to date it is vital that parents regularly read our weekly newsletter, which is emailed directly to you on a Friday.  This is packed with important information and key dates for your diary.

Reading at Home

Reading is very important and it opens up a world of learning to our children. At Barrow our long term aim is for all children to develop a passion and love of reading, as well as becoming confident readers across the curriculum.

Every child at Barrow will be given a school banded reading book by their class teacher and a phonics book. The phonics books will be changed on Fridays, in line with new sounds being taught in class. The book band books will be changed as needed, after reading through a few times and being confident with the text and comprehension. We ask that all children read to an adult THREE times per week and this should be signed and recorded in your child's reading diary.  This will be checked weekly by your child's class teacher.  In addition, all children will choose their own library book, they can keep the book for ONE week and must return it to school on their allocated library diary.  If your child does not return their library book, they will not be able to take another book out.
