PSHE Lunchbox

Overview

PSHE education is the school subject through which children and young people acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to manage their lives, now and in the future. PSHE education develops the qualities and attributes pupils need to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society.

RSHE

It is now a statutory requirement for primary schools to deliver Relationships Education and the Department of Education (DfE) encourages schools to deliver Sex Education that ensures both boys and girls are prepared for the changes adolescence brings and – drawing on knowledge of the human life cycle set out in the National Curriculum for science – how a baby is conceived and born. Health Education is also statutory in all schools. We at Barrow URC Primary School school acknowledge that under the Education Act 2002/Academies Act 2010 all schools must provide a balanced and broadly-based curriculum and wish to have a policy that not only covers the statutory content but covers all aspects of our Personal, Social, Health Economic (PSHE) education provision. At Barrow URC Primary School Statutory RSE and Health Education is taught as part of and alongside our broader PSHE Curriculum.

Mental health and Wellbeing

At Barrow URC Primary school, we know that schools have a vital role to play in supporting children’s mental health and wellbeing, teaching them the skills they need to recognise and deal with their emotions, and helping those with difficulties get the support they need.

Our Mental Health First Aiders - Miss Crossley and Miss Goodwin

MyHappy Mind

We follow ‘myHappymind’ as part of our ‘Wellbeing Wednesdays’ where we focus on mental health and wellbeing exercises. myHappymind is an award winning program for schools & nurseries, families and organisations. It teaches preventative habits that support positive mental health, resilience and self-esteem. All of the concepts taught are based on science and research and grounded in neuroscience and positive psychology.

The myHappymind curriculum is grounded in scientific research and helps children to:

  • Feel happier
  • Know what to do when they feel worried or stressed
  • Improve their focus and learn more
  • Achieve more of the goals that they set for themselves
  • Develop better relationships with friends and families
  • Feel great about who they are and have positive selfesteem
  • And much, much more!

Happiness Heroes

‘Happiness Heroes’ form a part of our Junior Leadership team, which empowers a small team of pupils to be our myHappymind Ambassadors who will lead the way in helping their fellow pupils look after their own mental health and promote happiness throughout school life.

Nurture Hub

We are excited to introduce the latest addition to our school community – the Nurture Hub, a dedicated space designed to provide invaluable support for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

The Nurture Hub is a warm, inviting, and nurturing environment where children with SEND can flourish academically, socially, and emotionally. It is a safe haven where every child is celebrated for their unique abilities, and where their individual needs are met with care and compassion.

We invite you to come and have a look, ask questions, and join in with our events! Thank you to the parents who came along to our recent coffee morning. More information about our next one will be shared soon.

Ludo

Our school dog, is available to all children who may need a calm few minutes, a quiet space to regulate their emotions, or to engage with weekly Ludo dog walks.
